Due to the Coastal Commissions decision today, this might turn into a very politically charged meeting to attend.
From the VNC:
VNC Board to Decide on Motions From Homelessness and Vehicular Occupancy Committee
The Venice Neighborhood Council Board will vote on eight motions placed on the agenda by its Ad Hoc Committee on Homelessness and Vehicular Occupancy at its next Board Meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. These motions include a proposal to call on the Los Angeles City Council to create a Vehicle-to-Housing Transition program, a proposal to increase LA City subsidies for affordable housing, a proposal to create a single-room occupancy facility in Venice to house the most at-risk homeless, and others. The meeting will be held at Westminster Elementary School Auditorium, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd, starting at 7:00pm.
The full report of the Committee, which was presented at the Board’s last meeting, can be found at http://venicenc.org/files/Homelessness_Committee_Final_Report.pdf.
In other business, the Council will hear presentations from applicants for its innovative and unique Community Improvement Project Funding Program. Proposals from eleven applicants were approved for funding. They were ranked according to criteria including their feasibility and benefit to the community by the VNC’s Neighborhood Committee. The VNC Board will vote on Tuesday’s meeting to approve the distribution of $20,000 (approximately 40% the VNC’s budget for 2009-2010) to the recommended projects. A report on last year’s Funding Program will also be presented.
Several new bylaws, including one designed to bring the VNC into compliance with LA City Council Guidelines for elections in 2010 will be presented and scheduled for ratification by stakeholders.
Additionally, the Board will vote on the recommendations of its Land Use and Planning Committee to deny approval for a sixty-five foot tall building proposed for the corner of Venice and Lincoln (see http://venicenc.org/files/090527_SixStoryBldg.pdf). A brief report on this Thursday’s California Coastal Commission meeting considering Overnight Parking Districts (to be held in Marina Del Rey) will also be presented.
Snacks and coffee will be provided.
A detailed agenda will be posted on the internet at www.VeniceNC.org and at posting places in the community.
There is no charge for this event. It is open to all Venice stakeholders and the public. Comments are encouraged.
