The Venice Neighborhood Council Board will award $20,000 to competitively selected applications for Community Improvement Project funds to be used in 2010-2011. The funds will be distributed in June, 2010 by the VNC Board to Venice stakeholders and organizations whose project applications meet City of LA funding criteria and demonstrate that their projects will improve the quality of life in Venice.
The VNC has developed an innovative method, first implemented in 2008 and unique among Los Angeles Neighborhood Councils, that allocates the bulk of its available Community Improvement Project monies on the basis of competitive applications. In the first two years of the program, the VNC distributed $60,000, supporting 30 projects with funding ranging from $500 to almost $5000. VNC funded projects have ranged from school gardens to educational opportunities, from rock concerts to choral music, from theater and photography workshops for children to a senior citizens dance.
The 2010-2011 program will be very similar to last year’s. The maximum funding available to an individual project will be $2000 and a total of $20,000 will be distributed. Applications for project funding are available on the VNC’s website at www.VeniceNC.org, the Venice Public Library and at the Venice Farmer’s Market. Completed applications must be received by March 1, 2010 to be considered. The VNC Board will make a final determination of projects to be funded at its June Board Meeting.
