This past week has been great for whale watching off the coast of Venice, as an estimated 20,000+ Eastern Pacific gray whales are migrating from their northern feeding grounds off Alaska and the Beaufort Sea to their southern breeding grounds off Baja California in Mexico. The journey is a 12,000+ mile round trip!
Sebastian Y. sent in a great video that he took at the Venice Pier earlier today, where some whales gave everyone a great show!
The Gray Whale migration takes place from December until roughly the beginning of April, with December and January being the best time to see them in the Santa Monica Bay! Be on the lookout!
Thanks for the video Sebastian!
