Venice Beach made nationwide news over Memorial Day weekend after five or more fights involving seventy or so people resulted in an LAPD citywide tactical alert Sunday evening. The fights were largely gang related. The news reports that we have seen say that it was largely minors aged 14-17. A witness told Yo! Venice! it was “more like 25-30 year olds”, “fired up from watching the boxing matches at the beach, too much sun and too many drinks” The witness added “seriously, don’t wear red in Venice.” We were told it was not the Shoreline Crips that were involved, but others from outside of Venice.
The following day the LAPD was out in full force. It will be interesting to see what happens this summer as far as police presence in Venice.
