From the Venice Neighborhood Council:
The October 28 Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC) elections are two months away, but candidates are already lining up. To help candidates understand the Los Angeles City election process and neighborhood council campaign rules, the VNC will hold a Candidate Recruitment Kickoff Reception on Thursday, August 30 for those interested in running for a council position. Candidates are invited to file candidacy applications prior to September 28, 2012. Applications can found online or at the VNC Table at the Venice Farmers’ Market.
The candidate recruitment reception will take place at the Canal Club, 2025 Pacific (at North Venice Boulevard) starting at 6:30pm. Attendance is free and open to everyone. Parking is available in the public parking structure across the street or in the beach parking lots. Candidates are encouraged to use alternate transportation if possible.
LA City Council Member Bill Rosendahl has been invited to speak at the meeting, describing his relationship with Neighborhood Councils and their role in Los Angeles City government. Current VNC board members will be on hand to talk about the responsibilities of their positions. The election process will be reviewed so potential candidates can find out what they need to do to run for office. Questions and answers will round out the agenda; the rest of the evening will be dedicated to mixing with board members in an informal atmosphere so potential candidates can learn more about the VNC from the current officers.
More information about the event and the election can be found on the internet at www.VeniceNC.org/Elections.
