On October 20, 2011, between 12:00 and 4:00 PM, Pacific Area Detectives will be conducting a bicycle registry at the Venice Beach Substation. Detectives would like to create a database of bicycles owned by Venice community members to assist officers in returning your bike to you in the event that it is stolen.
Often officers recover bicycles that are most likely stolen, but cannot be returned to their rightful owner because the owner cannot be identified. Detectives will gather owner information including contact information, a detailed description of the bicycle, and photographs. If your bicycle should be stolen and you have registered it with detectives, officers will be able to query the database when they recover bicycles to determine ownership and get the bicycle back to you. Representatives from Helen’s Cycles and Kryptonite will be on hand to give you tips on how to properly secure your bicycle.
