Four-Level Mechanical Car Stacking for Abbot Kinney?

Next Tuesday, August 17, 2010, The Venice Neighborhood Council will consider input from the Land Use and Planning Committee regarding the installation and operation of “mechanical automobile lifts and robotic parking structures.” The lifts would face Electric Avenue near the corner of Santa Clara.

From the VNC:

Four-Level Mechanical Car Stacking to be Considered at Next VNC Meeting

At our next Board Meeting the VNC will consider input from the Land Use and Planning Committee regarding the installation and operation of “mechanical automobile lifts and robotic parking structures.” These structures stack vehicles and have been permitted by the City of Los Angeles since 2007. The question of the use and operation of these structures has come up because of an application to install three 30 foot tall lifts, each capable of stacking vehicles on 4 levels, to provide required parking spaces for a new Abbot Kinney restaurant. According to background information submitted, no four level lift has ever been approved in the City of Los Angeles. The lifts would face Electric Avenue near the corner of Santa Clara.

The discussion will take Place at the VNC’s next board meeting, on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, in the Auditorium of the Westminster Elementary School, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. The meeting begins at 7:00PM.

The VNC Board will also be asked to approve the creation of a Public Safety Committee to research, develop and share information and ideas on how Venice residents can increase safety within their communities. It will work to provide education and tools to support the creation of neighborhood-led action groups. The committee will also work with city and governmental agencies on both crime prenvention and safety in the event of a natural disaster

Other items on the agenda are a proposed Venice clean-up campaign that would include more frequent emptying of trash receptacles; opposition to a proposed city ordinance that eliminates the city’s responsibility for repair of sidewalks due to any cause, including tree root growth and transfers liability for accidents resulting from poorly maintained sidewalks to home-owners; and support for the LA City Council in developing a city-wide Valet Parking Permit Program to address, “community intrusion problems.” Under the proposed ordinance, “valet companies will need to determine the anticipated number of customers and locations where customer vehicles will be parked… [and develop a system] to track valet operations [and] establish and monitor parking capacity.”

A detailed agenda will be posted on the internet at www.VeniceNC.org and at posting places in the community.

Snacks and coffee will be provided. There is no charge for this event. It is open to the public. Comments are encouraged.
