The Trunk Gallery will host an opening reception for “Real Talk”, a silent art auction to benefit Oakgrove, a human relations retreat program based at Venice High School, on Saturday, March 30th from 6-9pm.
Works of art donated by Venice High students and community artists, including Michael Temple, Lili Raygoza, Keiden Oguri and Joshua Hernandez will be on view for four weeks.
The work includes painting, photography, drawing and mixed-medium. The opening night reception will feature live music and refreshments. There is a $5 suggested donation. The auction will conclude with a closing reception on Friday, April 26, from 6-9pm. Highest bidders do not need to be present to win.
Oakgrove is a powerful experience that allows students to engage in team building, problem solving, and share experiences and feelings about subjects such as religion, family, discrimination, and other topics related to growing up in today’s world. The camp was founded in 1972 in response to the Watts riots of the 1960s. It is a place for Venice High students to speak freely and openly about themselves and their feelings without fear of judgment. The Oakgrove retreat is organized and run by students of Venice High. This unique approach is an integral part of Oakgrove’s model of sustainability.
