In order to secure the cycle and run courses, street closures by the Department of Transportation will begin as early as 3:30am. It is advised that motorists avoid the areas affected by the event, if at all possible. Vehicles will not be allowed on the course at any time and will only be allowed to cross the route at Department of Transportation maintained crossing points.
The event – which includes a swim, a bicycle race and a run – will begin on Venice Beach at 7:15 a.m. The road race will follow, with bikes traveling at speeds in excess of 35 mph along Venice Boulevard and continuing into downtown Los Angeles.
Due to the race, South Venice Blvd from Ocean Front Walk to Motor Avenue in Palms will be closed to traffic. The only detour north and south will be the 405 Freeway. As the athletes finish the course, there will be a rolling open from west to east. The event sponsor says all streets will be open by noon, although streets could be open as early as 11 a.m.
