Today is World AIDS Awareness Day.
From CBS Los Angeles:
City officials want the public to commemorate World AIDS Day by getting tested for HIV/AIDS and help increase awareness of the disease.
Several events will mark the day, which was established to tackle HIV prejudice and help stop the spread of the disease.
The city of Los Angeles will mark the day at the JW Marriott at LA Live, with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa among the scheduled speakers.
Other World AIDS Day events include a health fair at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and the 17th annual Noche De Las Memorias community event at The Wall-Las Memorias AIDS Monument, 3600 N. Mission Road, in Lincoln Park. Noche De Las Memorias begins at 4 p.m. and will include free HIV testing, music, prayer and the unveiling of recently added names on the memorial. A candlelight vigil will also be held at West Hollywood City Hall at 6 p.m.
