The Farmacy is now open on Abbot Kinney. Since Bret and I happened to have been parked right out front (making a trip to Abbots Pizza Company), of course we stopped in to say hi and see what all the fuss is about.
The first thing that caught my eye was the dessert case displaying baked treats, and I thought “are those what I think they are?” No. They were not. They were “herb-enhanced” baked goods and gelato, but not with that herb. Yet.
When asked “so…What’s this place all about?”, the friendly and smiling staff was quick to explain that they sell organic herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, beauty products, and desserts. Also, they offer massage and acupuncture.
“So the whole pot-thing is really the least of what you have going on.” I said. “Yes. The medical cannabis is one of the many services and remedies we have available.” was the official-sounding reply.
I met the general manager, who was also a friendly guy. I asked for a statement he’d like to give to the community in light of the controversy over their sudden appearance on our beloved AKB. “We offer affordable natural remedies and products to promote good health and wellbeing.” I think that’s what he said. I should have written it down. Damn. It was something equally as inoffensive. I know he said “affordable.” (Jeez, you’d think I did have an “herb” dessert!)
When I asked if they had a list of services (they didn’t), they got right on the phone to the main store to inquire about it.
My feeling about the place – chain-store and neon sign aside – is that they are professional, serious about what they do, knowledgeable and helpful. They had an interesting selection of products and yummy looking desserts. And with services like acupuncture and massage therapy, they truly are a wellness center.
I know I’m going back for the gelato – Mint Chocolate Chip is my favorite and now it’ll help me concentrate!
